Prevent Check Fraud
When thieves raid a mailbox and steal mail, they look for checks that they can change. They change the name of the Payee to the thieves’ name and will change the amount to something that won’t be challenge when they go to the bank to cash it.
How do thieves change a check to steal your money? They use an acid wash to remove the ink from the payee, amount line and amount box. Then they write their name and an amount they know they can cash the check for.
Can you prevent this? Yes, use a Gel Pen to write your checks. The gel ink cannot be acid washed. You may need to write another check, but you won’t be ripped off.
